Mike and I got here a few days before Hurricane Ike arrived. Although the hurricane was only a Category 2, it was still enough to do enough damage to the City of Houston. We decided to stay until the day we were going to leave, which is Sept 23.
So, World Champion Mike Paxson of the Ironmen will be at Tank’s Katy Paintball this weekend.
Saturday, Sept 20:
CLINIC
10am - 4pm
$75/player
If you sign up as a 3, 5, or 7-man team, you get in for $60 each.
Paint cost - $40
Sign up the morning of the clinic.
It’ll be worthwhile. You’ll definitely learn something.
Also,
Sunday, Sept 21:
3-MAN PUMP TOURNAMENT
Mike wants to play in it, and if you have a pump, and need to work on your one-shot skills, attend the tournament for $100 a team. Prizes will be given. And Mike is playing in the tournament, too. So, practice AGAINST the pro.
It’ll be good training and alot of fun.
For directions to the field, go to www.TanksPaintball.com
See you then.
Sincerely,
Bea

Today is the last day of the Line of Fire Paintball Summer Camp! I’ve got to get back to California for another practice with the Ironmen before next week’s PSP PA event. I’m grateful to Toby Gilreath for always inviting us back to his field near Asheville, NC. Thanks to those that attended this year’s camp and we’ll see you at the 14th Anniversary of Line of Fire in November.

Bea’s going back to where she was born and raised - New Jersey! I’ll be the one doing most of the driving during the July Destiny/Pinokio Road Trip and we’re making several stops starting in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 3rd, going up north to Ontario, Canada, traveling eastward to Maine, then going south toward New Jersey, touring New York City (with Nicky Cuba), and then we’ll finish up in Buffalo for the 7-man event. July 12th, Nicky’s going to be helping me instruct the day-clinic from 9AM until 2PM followed by a barbeque and open-play. ZJ Paintball is an indoor facility, so they stay open as late as 11PM!
See you then!

The entire weekend of June 21st, we’ll be hosting more day-clinics in the Boston, Massachusetts, area. Just like I coach Destiny, I will be teaching clinic participants with Destiny in attendance. You’ll get to meet Bea & her new all-female roster as well as some other pro special guests (we’re trying to get some of the Hurricanes to come and hang out). It will be held at Fox4 Paintball in Upton, Massachusetts. Go to www.Fox4Paintball.com to sign up and we’ll also be celebrating World Paintball Day on June 22nd. On that Sunday, we’ll also be holding yet another day-clinic. If you want, you can attend both. Get all the details at www.DestinyPaintball.com.

Every year since 2002, Bea, Rocky, and I have been attending events at Toby Gilreath’s field, Line of Fire Paintball, in Horse Shoe, North Carolina (near Asheville). We’re returning to LOF to have another summer paintball camp of fun, while teaching along the way. The dates for the camp have changed from June 10th thru the 12th TO July 29-31st; it’s 3 days of not just learning more paintball, but pure paintball joy. To sign up, go to www.LOFpb.com and we’ll see you at LOF’s Summer Camp.

Sunday Conclusion:
Ironmen take 2nd Place and $10,000.
After Ironmen went into the Finals Match up against Dynasty, they were undefeated this entire event. As for Dynasty, they lost two matches against Aftermath and X-Factor. The first two points up on the board were earned by Dynasty, then it was Ironmen’s turn to put two points in a row up on the board, thereafter. When the second half came around, Dynasty made the score 3-2 in their favor, with Ironmen matching that, tying it up again, 3-3. After that, Dynasty didn’t let Ironmen put any points up on the board and won the event reaching the 9 point mark with just minutes left in the 15-minute half. Final score: 9-3, Dynasty. This marks the first NXL event for Dynasty in the history of its team. Yes, Dynasty won in the PSP before, but when they were competing in the Open X-Ball Division, not the NXL.
Jacksonville is next for the Ironmen. They’ll be making the drive down from Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mike, on the other hand, is flying back to Southwest Florida to Ft. Myers to then drive up the van. See you at the Jax NPPL Super 7.
The scores from this past weekend for Ironmen:
+Ironmen beat Philly 7-6 yesterday at 1130AM (Thurs)
+Ironmen beat Impact 6-5 today at 930AM (Fri)
-Impact lost to Damage 9-4.
+Ironmen beat Infamous 9-4 this past Friday at 2PM.
Infamous lost to Philly 9-6.
+Ironmen beat Damage, 9-1, at 930AM and then beat Avalanche 9-2, at 4PM on Saturday.
-Damage lost to Infamous 6-5.
-Avalanche lost to Infamous 7-5.
Teams in Ironmen’s Brackets were:
-Philly
-Infamous
-Damage
-Avalanche
-Impact
Sunday
The top 6 teams moved on to the quarters then the top 4 will proceed to the semi-finals.
We woke up to rain here in Rock Hill, South Carolina, but the NXL field still started on time; 8AM between Ironmen and Infamous. It was back and forth in the first half, but when the 2nd half started, Ironmen started to pull away. Final score 9 to 4. Ironmen play Philly at 1PM today.
Today’s Schedule:
8AM Ironmen (9) vs Infamous (5)
9AM Legion (5) vs Dynasty (9)
10AM Infamous (1) vs Philly (9)
11AM Dynasty vs X-Factor
1PM Ironmen (6) vs Philly (5) OT
2PM X-Factor vs Legion
Depending on the winner of each match up above, followed by its point-spread, the Top 4 teams will move onto the Semi-Finals based on how they fair in the two games they have to play in the quarter-finals. I originally thought that it was that 1st place seat plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd, and then the winner of both those matches go to the Finals Match, but it’s not. Because the Ironmen won both their games in quarter-finals and so did Dynasty, I believe (I have to find out when I go back to the field), it’s between Ironmen and Dynasty for the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Open Championship and $25,000! Second place gets $10,000, nothing for 3rd and 4th.
There will be no match played for 3rd place because there is no prize money for 3rd. The 3rd place seat will be determined on how high the teams went into the semi-finals, I believe.
The rain stopped, by the way, after the Ironmen beat Infamous this morning at around 9AM. The sun has broken through the clouds and it could still possibly rain, but as of right now, it’s not.!
SUNDAY FINALS
IRONMEN vs Dynasty
Dynasty wins. 9-3, $25K and the PSP MAO Championship.
GO to www.TheNXL.com for the scores from the Prelims and the Sunday Schedule.
